January 2012
On a cold but clear January evening, some 25 members and guests of the monthly Greek interest club enjoyed an evening of camaraderie, good food and wine at the Club’s annual Vassilopitta Supper Party; the Vassilopitta is a special cake made for the Greek New Year, a tradition which dates back to the 4th Century AD. A coin is baked in the cake with the ingredients, and the person receiving the portion containing the coin is considered blessed for the New Year.
The lucky recipient of the coin was delighted Jill Holland. Chairman, Peter Reynolds, outlined the 2012 Programme and on behalf of everyone thanked the hosts, Loretta & John Proctor for an excellent party.
The next meeting of the Club will be on Thursday 23rd February when long-standing members Liz & Tony Poole return to give an insight into the island of Naxos, where they have a home. Naxos is the largest and most fertile island in the Cyclades, as well as a popular tourist destination. The meeting will be held at the Worcester Golf and Country Club, Bransford Road, Worcester starting at 7.30pm.
Anyone wishing to come along will be made most welcome. Further details can be found by contacting the chairman, Peter Reynolds on 07855 441804.
